On December 26, I wrote,
"The big news next week will be an intrusion of very cold air. Models have been pointing to this possibility for some time and it now appears likely that the coldest air of the season will arrive by this time next week. It is to early to pin down numbers, but it seems safe to say that temperatures will drop into the teens or lower. Highs will be in the 30's and we may have a day or two that we struggle to make it above freezing."
The models nailed this cold wave over a week in advance.
Below are some low temperature reports from across the state that were collected this morning by Meteorologist J.B. Elliott at Alabamawx.com. I have reorganized them a little. The only location in the state that did not dip below freezing in the entire state was Dauphin Island, which is my dream retirement location. Decatur, Alabama did not rise above freezing until after 2. p.m today, which came to 43 consecutive hours below freezing. The above freezing temperatures will not last long and Alabama will go back into the deep freeze tonight and tomorrow morning.
I will be posting a few pictures later showing what can happen when a sprinkler is left on when the temperature dips to 12 degrees as it did in Decatur last night.

Thanks. Sometimes those models are really helpful. We're having too much cold weather not to ever get any snow with it...as usual!
