Deadly tornadoes struck North Carolina in the early morning hours of Saturday November 15, 2008. The towns of Elm City and Kenly, North Carolina was the hardest hit. Two fatalities were reported; Joshua Wiggins, 11, who died in his grandparents' home in Elm City and Maryland Gomez, 61, who was found dead in her mobile home near Kenly.
